While most Android spyware requires you to root the device to see things like Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp chats, uMobix’s smartphone surveillance software does NOT. For Android Devices While mSpy (see my #2 pick above) is my top pick for Android spy apps, uMobix does offer a powerful keylogger feature. The software is very light (about 20 MB in size) and takes up a tiny fraction of your resources. You won’t notice a difference even if you allow the app to run all the time. The interface is pretty simple too. You get a Dashboard which shows you your Mac’s protection status, the last scan timestamp, and the software update status. The big question out there when it comes to Apple products is, “Can a Mac get a virus?” The short answer? Absolutely.

2017

Apple computers can get viruses and malware just like PCs can. While iMacs, MacBooks, Mac Minis, and iPhones may not be as frequent targets as Windows computers, all have their fair share of threats.

Adware, spyware, ransomware, and hardware and software vulnerabilities are some of the problems now affecting Macs, and not just PCs. Read on to learn more about some of the most common malware and viruses that can affect Apple devices, what the signs are, and what you can do to help protect your devices.

1. Adware on Macs

Adware is a potentially unwanted program that can bombard users with advertising pop-ups. Adware can be both malicious or benign. Some adware can work in conjunction with spyware, a type of software that can spy on and record everything you do online.

So you’ve used Certo AntiSpy to scan your Apple mobile device for spyware and you’re unlucky enough to find your device is bugged. What next? Since having a spy app installed on your device means that someone could be remotely monitoring your calls, texts, emails and other private data you’ll probably want to remove it as soon as possible *.

Unfortunately, this isn’t as easy as just deleting the app. iPhone spyware hides itself deep in the device’s filesystem to try and avoid detection which means that it can’t simply be uninstalled like a normal app. However, there are ways to rid your device of spyware that can be performed with relative ease and do not require any advanced technical knowledge. This article will guide you through 2 methods of removing iPhone spyware.

If you haven’t scanned your device yet, find out more about Certo AntiSpy and how it can detect spyware on your iPhone or iPad.

This is the simplest way of removing spyware from an Apple mobile device. The vast majority of commercially available iPhone spyware requires the device to be Jailbroken in order to function. Jailbreaking is the process of un-restricting the device so that 3rd party applications that have not been approved by Apple (e.g. spyware) can be installed. Updating the device’s iOS version removes the Jailbreak, thus causing any spyware installed on the device to no longer function.

On the device:

  1. Open iTunes on your PC or Mac
  2. Connect your iOS device
  3. Select your iPhone or iPad when it appears in iTunes
  4. In the Summary pane click “Check for Update”

This is a more thorough removal method. This method erases all data from the device and installs the latest iOS software, returning it to its original ‘factory’ state. You should perform a backup of your device using iTunes or iCloud before doing a factory reset so that you can restore all of your personal data again when finished.

  1. Open iTunes on your PC or Mac
  2. Connect your iOS device
  3. Select your iPhone or iPad when it appears in iTunes
  4. In the Summary pane click “Restore iPhone” or “Restore iPad” depending on your device
  5. Click “Restore” again to confirm
  6. The device will then restore to factory settings and restart. This can take several minutes to complete
  7. When completed you will have the option to restore from a backup to restore all of your personal data to the device

It is worth noting that although the steps above will stop spyware from working and ensure that your device is no longer being monitored, some remnants of the spy app may still remain on the device. This is because some parts of the spy app are backed-up when you perform a backup of your device to iTunes or iCloud. When you restore from this backup, you are also restoring the parts of the spy app that were backed-up, although they will no longer function. As such, if you re-scan the device with Certo AntiSpy after performing the removal steps it may still detect these remnants of spyware. If you would rather completely clean your device and start afresh with a blank device, then we recommend you perform a factory reset but do not restore from a backup. However, you will need to re-add any personal data to the device manually.

* If you know who may be responsible for installing spyware on your device and are considering legal proceedings we recommend that you do not remove the spyware until advised to do so by legal counsel. This is because they may require your device to be examined by a digital forensics professional in order to gain additional evidence.
